50th Table Top Tuesday

Welcome to the 50th Table Top Tuesday.  Wow, we've been playing with our vignettes for almost a year.  I have learned so much from all of you and I've had so much fun looking at your vignettes and displays.  Thank you for such wonderful drool power, eye candy and inspiration.

Since I've found so many wonderful silver items lately at Goodwill, Thrift stores and Sales, I just had to play and create a new Dining table display.  Everything on this table is way under $10 and so much fun.

I started with the beautiful paisley shawl I found, seems like it is so perfect to use everywhere in my home, paired with my fabulous GW tray.  Love them.

The GW wine caddy was already on the table, I just left it.  I think it works perfectly with the new vignette.

The Champagne bucket was a recent find at an after Christmas sale and was under $10, can you believe it!!!  I was so thrilled. The little silver wine stem I found this week at GW.  I'm using a silver and crystal coaster to hold a few corks.

I've had the silver Paul Rever bowl for years.  It was sitting on the kitchen counter, but I like it better here.  The faux fruit is so fun to play with.

I was so excited when I found the candelabra at GW.  I have wanted one for a long time.  I am really going to enjoy this piece.

I've had these Oystrich feathers for a long time and never knew how to use them.  I've seen so many of you making stunning arrangements with feathers, so I thought I would put some feathers together and see what I could make in the champagne bucket.  Love, love, love the feathers and I love using the bucket as a floral container.

When I was all done, I threw in a tassel for a little fun and glam.

I'm having fun spreading some of my silver around the house.  It's always nice to enjoy using it instead of just storing it away in the china cabinet.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I always look forward to your visits and can't wait to see all of your new vignettes and displays.

Heirlooms

Several of you have asked about the pictures I have in the bedroom.  When my mom passed away many years ago, I found these old pictures in a chest.  I had never seen them before and didn't know anything about the people.  My mom had a note on the back of each one, however she wrote things like Aunt Maude, Uncle John and family and etc.  My dad didn't know the story of any of these people, however since they are ancestors I asked if I could have them.  A couple of them were in frames and I found antique looking frames for the others.

This one simply says Aunt Maude.  This is one of the frames I found, not an antique, but it works well.

This one says Mother's Aunt Alice.  This is also one of the frames I found.

This one says Uncle John and family.  It was framed this way.

This one says John and Mollie.  My mother had a brother named John and a sister named Mollie.  They were both quite a few years older than her, so I think this is her brother and sister.  I found this frame also.

This says Grandma and Grandpa.  It was in this frame with the curved and bowed glass. (Sorry for the glare).

I wish I had seen these pictures while she was alive to learn more about these people, but I cherish the pictures anyway.  These would all be great or great-great ancestors.

Thanks for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.   Be sure to link up tonight to Table Top Tuesday.  You guys always inspire me.

Revamping A Tray

I am so sorry the weather has been so bad for most of the country, however it has been fabulous here, so I got out the spray paint to revamp a tray that I've been wanting to redo.

I love the shape and size of this tray, but the bright white just doesn't work in my house.

After a light sanding, I sprayed on a couple of light coats of a pretty yellowy/gold color.

When it was dry I gave it a good sanding for some age.

I used Minwax Walnut stain and applied a light coat and then wiped it off. Not enough, so I gave it some more.

This is looking better, however I want a little more.

Ok, this is so much better.  Now this is going to fit right in with all my things.  When it is dry I will give it a couple of coats of Satin Clear Poly and it will be done.

The color works great with my furniture.  I put it on the ottoman for now, but I can see it all over the house.

I have a couple of lanterns that are white and want to change them too.  I removed the glass and gave them a very light sanding.

A couple of coats of ORB and I like them so much better.

There are a few more projects that I have to paint, but for today I am done.  Are you painting anything?

How To Make An Ottoman

After I said I had made my ottoman, I've had so many people ask me how to make one.  So here are very simple instructions.  It really is so easy.

Just determine the size of ottoman you want and build a box.  I used 1"x6"pine boards for the sides of the bottom section of the ottoman.  Just nail them together in a box.  Then take a 2x4 piece of wood and cut to fit the corners on both the top and bottom of the box.  Screw the corner cross pieces in so your box is very sturdy.  Also cut a piece of plywood the size of your box.  That's all the construction that is necessary.  A hand saw is really all you need.

Next, cut a piece of heavy batting 61/2 inches wide and long enough to wrap around the box and staple it on in a few places.  Then cut a piece of fabric 71/2 inches wide and long enough to go around the box allowing for a seam allowance.  Sew the fabric together and make sure it is going to be a really tight fit.  Then just slip it over the box placing the seam on one corner.  Staple it to the top and bottom edge of the box.  After that is stapled, cover some large cording and staple that on top of the box, again leaving the joining edge on the corner.  See the below picture.

This picture shows the fabric pulled under the box and stapled.

Now, take your piece of plywood and cover it with a 4" piece of foam cut to size.  Then cover that with a thick piece of batting, trimming corners so they lay flat around the foam.  Next cut a piece of fabric large enough to cover all of it and enough to pull around and staple to the bottom of the plywood.  Pull the fabric taught, but do not stretch so much that you loose the shape of the foam and batting.  Make a simple pleat at the corners and staple down.  See below picture.  When done place it on top of the bottom section and then screw the top and bottom together at the 4 corner braces.

Turn in over and take a scrap of black fabric and staple it to the bottom as a dust cover and to give it a more professional look.  Now just pick out the legs that you want and screw them into the cross braces in the 4 bottom corners and you are done.

This really is such an easy project and you can have any size you want, covered in any fabric you want.

I hope this all made sense.  I can't wait to see all the ones you create.

Thanks for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.

Wonderful Bright Sunshine

The weather has just been glorious with temps in the 70's and the sun so bright.  Love it. This is why we live in Arizona.   I just walked into the bedroom and loved how bright the sun was shining in.  Just gave the whole room a glow.

It was so warm and pretty, I grabbed some spray paint and started on a project I've been wanting to do.  I'll show you when I get done.  Isn't this yellow color pretty!!!

Hope the sun is shining where you are.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.  Have a super day!!!

Old World Art

I was in Home Goods and found this frame on the clearance aisle for $3.  It had a boo-boo on the edge, but a little stain totally took care of that.  Love ornate frames.

I went to my favorite free art site ( freespiritart.com) and copied this darling print of a little boy at the stable.

Printed it out to size and I had a new masterpiece. (Hard to get a pic without glare, sorry)

I think it will be wonderful on the secretary in the guest bedroom when I get it all done, however in the meantime, I love it on one of the shelves in the bookcase.  I love mixing art and books.

Look around for some interesting frames and start creating your own masterpieces.

Goodwill Comes Thru Again

Seems like Goodwill and grocery shopping go hand in hand for me.  I always have to stop by and see what's new, and especially when it is 25% off Senior day.

On my last trip I found quite a few treasures.  Still finding gorgeous trays and for $3.99 less the 25%, I had to have this one.

See how pretty it is all cleaned up.  Big enough to hold a vignette also.

I am still trying to buy one Christmas gift a month so when the holiday rolls around I will be way ahead of the game.

This beautiful shell orb is perfect for someone on my gift list.  So pretty.

I love it when I see the perfect treasure to fill the voids in my silver collection.  I didin't have a candelabra, and this one is nice and big, and really heavy.  Also I can always use another silver wine glass.  They are such fun to decorate with.  The wine stem was only $1.99, and it gleams with just a little polish.

Look at the price on the candelabra, and with 25% off, can't beat that.

In yesterday's post I showed you my wine coaster with bottle stopper holder that I found on this same trip.  Love it when I find an unusual piece.

So fun to play with new treasures.  Now I need to create something new with the rest of my finds.  Come back for Table Top Tuesday, I have big plans for some more of my silver.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.
